As I reflect on the remarkable journey of Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, I am filled with immense pride and a profound sense of responsibility. Founded in 1946 as the Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science by the visionary Prof. S. P. Agharkar, our Institute has evolved over nearly eight decades into a beacon of scientific excellence and innovation. From its early contributions to fundamental research in biology and agriculture to its pivotal role in addressing national priorities in food security, biodiversity conservation, and bioresources utilization, ARI has consistently served the nation with distinction.

Today, ARI stands at the forefront of cutting-edge science, driven by a vibrant community of researchers, students, and staff who continue to push the boundaries of knowledge. Our contributions to national missions—be it sustainable agriculture, microbial diversity, genetic resource management, or climate-resilient bioeconomy—reflect not just scientific rigour but a deep commitment to societal well-being.By fostering partnerships across institutions, industries, and communities, we aim to amplify the impact of our work and ensure that science remains a driver of inclusive growth.

A future where our research shapes policy, empowers communities, and contributes meaningfully to the Sustainable Development Goals is within reach—and together, we will realise it.My vision for ARI is also anchored in transparency, robust governance, and global relevance. We aspire to position ARI as a hub where creativity meets rigor, where young minds find inspiration, and where collective effort translates into solutions of national and international significance. In doing so, we reaffirm our responsibility to uphold the highest standards of integrity, openness, and accountability in all that we undertake.
