Welcome to the MACS-Agharkar Research Institute, an autonomous institute of DST,  committed to the highest standards in research in life sciences for societal welfare. 

Established in 1946, a year before our Nation became independent, MACS-Agharkar Research Institute has flourished in the subjects that include Botany, Chemistry, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Geology, Microbiology, Mycology, and Zoology.

Based on the nature of research the subjects have been categorised into thematic areas, viz. Biodiversity & Palaeobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Nanobioscience.

Equipped with state-of-art laboratories, ARI attracts a large number of students from across the Country to pursue research leading to PhD. An enthusiastic group of researchers working in challenging areas makes research at ARI engrossing. Affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, ARI constantly interacts with the University departments, besides collaborating with institutions abroad.
